Winter Magic

Winter Magic uses similar quests as the most recent large event, but with a few changes and improvements.

Summary

QUEST SYSTEM

The quest system is similar to the last event, with a few differences, as outlined in the event forum announcement:

Based on your feedback from the Mermaids and Autumn Zodiac events, we have also made the following changes related to the event quests:

  • There will be two different parts of the event quest line. The first part will be regular event quests for everyone, the second part will be a bonus section.
  • The regular section will contain randomized quests, but be less repetitive than before. This section is finite and set to end at some point.
  • The bonus section follows right after and will contain significantly harder quests, while granting a relatively small reward. This is aimed at the players who managed to finish the quest line and are still looking to continue working getting even more Red Ribbons until the event ends.
  • The regular section of the quest line will not require productions of a building of a specific level. However, this quest condition remains in the game for future use. Additionally, these quests will still occur in the bonus section.
  • Quests that previously asked for a specific basic goods (tier 1) were partially replaced with quests that also accept crafted (tier 2) or sometimes even magical goods (tier 3).
  • It is no longer possible to have the exact same quest appear twice in a row.

The first quest awards 17 Ribbons. The number of ribbons each quest is worth gradually increases up to a maximum of 57. Then the bonus quest begin, and each bonus quest awards 20 Ribbons.

Update 11/20/19: The latest game update increased the number of Red Ribbons earned from quests at the start of the quest line. To balance the effect of the Red Ribbon increase, there is a decrease in the number of Red Ribbons you can receive towards the end of the quest line. These changes are now reflected in the list of Ribbons per quest and the quest list below.

Update 12/5/19: The Ribbons per quest have been updated again with the event release to live worlds. There are also now fewer quests before the bonus quests are reached, so numbering schemes indicated below are no longer exactly correct.

Update 12/8/19: The Ribbons per quest and the quest numbering schemes below are now updated to reflect the updates to the event as it is running on live. Note these changes did not take place on beta.

Building levels required

Some quests require productions with “a manufactory from your current or previous chapter” or “a workshop from your current or previous three Chapters.”

When this or similar language is included, it means you will need buildings of at least the following levels or higher, based on your current research chapter:

ChapterWorkshopsManufactories

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT QUESTS

Here are the answers to some of the common questions we’ve seen about the quests for this event.

Why aren’t supply instants counting towards the quest?

Pay close attention to the quest wording – does it say gain? Or produce?

If it says gain, any method of acquiring supplies will work. If it says produce, however, the resources must be produced by a building in your city.

How do I gain Spell Fragments?

Spell Fragments can be gained by disenchanting items in the Magic Academy.

Elvenar Spell Fragments

You can also win Spell Fragments from chests when completing Spire encounters.

How do I gain Combining Catalysts?

Combining Catalysts can be produced in the Magic Academy with relics.

Elvenar Combining Catalysts

You can also win Combining Catalysts from chests when completing Spire encounters.

How do I gain Vision Vapor?

Vision Vapor is earned from crafting items in the Magic Academy. Once you collect a crafted item, you will receive the amount of vision vapor listed:

Elvenar Vision Vapor

How do I spend Knowledge Points?

Knowledge points are ‘spent’ any time they are used. They can be added to research, to a player’s own Ancient Wonder, or to another player’s Ancient Wonder. Using Ancient Wisdom instants from inventory will also count as spending Knowledge Points.

It is not possible to invest KP into the Ancient Wonders of other players on the mobile version of the game at this time.

Why didn’t the quest count the goods I produced? Or why does the required amount keep changing?

In this event, we have a new type of quest to produce a certain amount of various types of goods. Some allow for any tier, some restrict to first or to first and second tiers.

In these cases, any type of good will count that matches the stated requirement, but they will not add together. Progress will only be shown for the good you have collected the most of towards the required amount, and the quantity required may vary by tier.

For example, if you produce 1,000 planks and 2,000 steel, the quest will display progress of 2,000. If 500 planks are collected, the progress will not change, but the 500 will still be counted towards the planks total. The progress will not change until more steel is produced, or until more planks than steel are produced.

For quests which allow multiple tiers of goods, the required amount shown can change if you collect goods from a different tier.

Why didn’t the quest count a production that was collected?

While quest errors can happen, they are fairly rare. When an actual quest error is present, it will usually be listed in the forum as a confirmed bug.

Most of the time when a quest doesn’t update or complete when expected, the culprit is simply that the requirement has not been properly satisfied. Be sure to hover over each production to confirm what type it is before collecting it.

In some cases, there could simply be a delay in connection and the production wasn’t actually collected, or, a delay in the game recognizing it was collected. In this case, waiting a moment or refreshing the game can trigger the quest to notice the collection has been made, or show the production ready to be collected again.

If the quest requires a building from your current or previous chapter, it needs to be a minimum level.

Why isn’t the quest counting the Encounters or Tournament Encounters completed?

In this event, there are several quests that require x Encounters OR x Tournament Encounters. This means that all of one type must be completed in order to satisfy the quest.

When it comes to quests that have an “OR” in them, the quest progress will only indicate the progress of the option which is closest to completion. Therefore if some regular Encounters have been completed, and then some Tournament Encounters are completed, the progress will not update until a higher percentage of Tournament Encounters than regular Encounters is completed.
